Laser facial rejuvenation – everything you need to know

Laser facial rejuvenation gives a very natural and lasting effect. This is an excellent alternative to surgery.

Thanks to the stimulation of collagen in the skin, it triggers natural regenerative processes and contributes to a noticeable improvement in the condition of the skin. What should you know about laser facial rejuvenation?

When should you use a laser for wrinkles?

Almost any anti-aging procedure can be performed with a laser. Modern anti-wrinkle lasers are often characterized by different applications in one device:

  • antidote to wrinkles,
  • strengthen and tighten the skin,
  • remove discoloration,
  • close capillaries
  • remove acne scars.

Experts know all about laser facial rejuvenation. This is a procedure that can be used at almost any age. Depending on the device and its settings, it is possible to treat the visible signs of skin aging or to deliver treatments that enhance the condition of youthful skin to slow down the aging process. But in most cases, people over 30 years of age decide to undergo laser skin rejuvenation when more visible wrinkles, discoloration and dilated capillaries appear on the face.

What is laser facial rejuvenation?

Laser facial rejuvenation is an aesthetic medicine operation performed by a doctor. The specialist performs a series of laser "shots" aimed at the areas that require intensive restoration on the face. The energy targets blemishes very precisely and mobilizes the skin to start its regenerative activity.

The laser emits a light beam of a certain wavelength by affecting specific chromophores in the skin. Chromophores are substances such as water, melanin (skin pigment) and hemoglobin (blood pigment). Individual substances absorb the laser energy, which causes a photothermal effect (or photomechanical in the case of picosecond lasers) and causes controlled damage to the treated tissue. This way you can get rid of wrinkles, discoloration or dilated capillaries (called spider veins). Fractional lasers, when in contact with water, affect skin cells, stimulating their production of collagen and elastin. Vascular lasers capture hemoglobin, thereby causing the blood vessel to close. On the other hand, lasers designed to remove age spots react with melanin.

Is laser resurfacing safe?

Provided that laser facial rejuvenation is performed by an experienced specialist, using professional equipment and in a specialized center, you can be sure that the procedure will be safe and will give the expected result. Depending on the device used, the procedure can be more or less painful. For people who are sensitive to pain, the doctor may use local anesthesia using a numbing cream. Be prepared for irritation, redness and swelling after the procedure. This is a normal skin reaction to laser exposure. The treatment induces controlled inflammation that stimulates skin regeneration. The temperature resulting from laser facial rejuvenation causes the flow of fibroblasts, i. e. cells that produce collagen fibers. Thanks to this, the skin is renewed from the inside.

Since laser facial rejuvenation is based on the stimulation of natural processes in the skin, you should be prepared that the effects will not be visible immediately. First, it takes several treatments to get visible results. Second, laser-initiated collagen remodeling takes weeks or even months. Therefore, it is necessary to wait about 3 months after the end of the laser therapy to get the optimal result.
